Now that you have the basis to monitor website traffic and view high quality reports on your website, it’s time to look at

3 Ways to Improve Website Rankings

1. Page Title Tags

What is a page title tag?

Your page title is essentially the name of your website’s pages. In the SEO world every page on your website must have a unique name. You can see these when you mouse over a TAB in your web browser.

Why are page titles so important?

Search Engines look at the page titles to determine what exactly is most important about this page, much like a chapter of a book. It should be short, descriptive and use the keyword your trying to target. Search Engines also use the title tag in your websites search results.

How to update your page titles?

At NEXT LEVEL Digital, we use primarily use WordPress to build our clients websites as the it provides an out-of-the-box CMS (Content Management System) solution that is very easy and user friendly.

As with the majority of CMS website platforms, there are a large number of free plugins specific to SEO that will easily allow you to update or change your websites page titles.

2. Page Description or META Description Tags

What are page descriptions?

A page description not only tells search engines what your page is about but also potential visitors. Think of it as the synopsis of the chapter in a book.

Search Engines also use this description when displaying search results just like they do with the title tags.

It’s important to note if you haven’t defined your META Tags or Page Descriptions then Search Engines such as Google will use the first paragraph of text on the page. Which might not be how you want to be viewed in the results.

How to update your page descriptions or META tags?

Again if your website is built using a CMS solution then this process should be easy. We generally use the same plugin that controls the title tags to update the page descriptions as well.

3. Page Headings or <H> tags

What are Page Headings or <H> tags?

Page headings Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3 etc… or in the coding world look more like <H1>, H2> and <H3> etc… each number basically representing a different level of importance.

Headings shouldn’t be anything new to you, a heading simply represents the topic or subject on the page, or throughout the page depending on the amount of content you have.

How to improve you page headings?

Firstly give every page a <H1> or Heading 1 title. Only use the <H1> tag once on each page. Overdoing this will have a negative impact on your search results. If you have any questions or get in contact with us to discuss your goals.

There is no real hard and fast rule here. Just don’t OVER DO IT!

1x Heading 1, 2-3 Heading 2 and 4-5 Heading 3 tags should be fine for those pages that contain large amounts of content.
